Slit Lamp

The slit lamp is a specialized microscope with an adjustable, bright light source that allows our doctors to closely examine the front structures of your eye,  including the cornea, iris, lens, and eyelids,  in magnified detail. You’ll rest your chin and forehead on a support while the doctor adjusts the light and examines each structure. It’s painless and takes just a few minutes. This exam helps diagnose conditions such as cataracts, corneal abrasions or infections, dry eye disease, and inflammation. It’s often paired with eye drops to allow a deeper view of internal structures, including the retina. The slit lamp exam is a routine part of most comprehensive eye checkups.
